Sefton Council has produced a commemorative World War One exhibition which will be on display throughout the borough in the coming months.
Working closely with Sefton CVS and local volunteers, Sefton’s library service has produced the impressive exhibition which will first go on display at Southport Library in the Atkinson in the last week in July.
Funded by a Heritage Lottery grant, and with additional financial support from the Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle, a fourteen panel exhibition and information booklet has been produced, telling the story of Sefton’s contribution and sacrifice during the Great War.
Information about home front activity, local military hospitals, and the famous war poets who trained in the area is included, as well as stories of local men who gave their lives. The men with Sefton links who won Britain’s highest award for valour, the Victoria Cross, are also highlighted.
The display forms part of an ongoing commemoration of World War One throughout Sefton, and is well worth visiting.
