From Chauffeur to Army Service Corps

James Rathbone was Chauffeur to Lord Leverhulme, and served in the Motor Company of the Army Service Corps

My Grandfather, James Rathbone, was born in Heswall. He was chauffeur to Lord Leverhulme before and after WWI and was living in Bromborough at this time. He spent the war years in the East Africa Campaign as a Motor Driver, but what action he saw I was never told. I have a few photos of him with his Motor Vehicle, which it seems was known as his ‘bus’ judging by this description in letters written at the time. What it was used for I don’t know.
