It is not known when Percy enlisted with the 20th Battalion of the King’s Liverpool Regiment. His Service Number was 23947.
The 20th Service Battalion was a Pals Battalion formed by Lord Derby on 14th October 1914, with barracks in an old watch factory in Prescot. From 30th April they formed part of the 89th Brigade, 30th Division and landed in Boulogne in November 1915.
In 1916 Percy may have taken part in Battles of the Somme at Albert and at Trones Wood. Percy was initially listed as being ‘missing in action’.
In October 1916 his mother, Lucy, put an appeal in the Liverpool Echo for more information about her missing son.
Percy was killed on 30th July 1916 in Flanders, he was just 20 years old. Percy is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
